A similar style to many other locals milestones. The turnpike trust which operated the roads around Sedbergh had turnpikes radiating out from the town. Most are now main roads. The turnpike act for these passed in 1761-2. Sedbergh was formerly in the West Riding of Yorkshire, now in Cumbria. You will find WRCC markers near bridges.
