This life-size bronze statue of two members of the James gang depicts them in typical western attire, counting out their ill-gotten loot and apprehensive about the possibility of being caught by the law. The gang is reputed to have used Meramec Cavern as a hideout in the 1870s. The historical marker accompanying this sculpture reads:

Historical Marker
Jesse James Hideout

In the early 1870's he and his band
used the cavern on numerous occasions
because it afforded a complete hideout
for men and horses
