The Williams house and grounds make up an historic estate of national importance. The land is part of the Anglican Mission Station established in Paihia by Reverend Henry Williams and his brother William in the 1820s. The main building now houses Paihia's library and gallery.

The Friends of the Williams House, Paihia Library Incorporated are a voluntary group who support the development of the Paihia Library, including the upstairs gallery, and the historic Williams House.

The Friends are an active group who have completed many projects and have more under way. For example:
* Upstairs Gallery - has been equipped with an art hanging display system, lighting and carpet. Local artists can display their art here.
* Restoration of the Old Stone Shed and Garage
* Completing a Brochure and Book "Protecting Paradise in Paihia"
* Improving and Maintaining the Gardens and Grounds
