I recovered three of four U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmarks from the UNDERPASS series from 1948 in good condition. Reference Mark 1 was recovered flush with the ground and easily covered with debris. Reference Mark 2 was not recovered and is most likely buried under about four feet of soil under a mound from previous road construction. An attached picture shows my friend standing at the location where RM2 should be. The AZ Mark (reset) was easily recovered and is located near the Hwy 140 / N Poe Valley Rd junction, a half mile south of the UNDERPASS series. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for recovery with the following exceptions: The railroad underpass mentioned has been removed and is now known as the OC&E Woodsline State Trail (Rails to Trails) trail; and power pole 68 mentioned in reference to locating the AZ mark has been removed as well.

TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE KLAMATH FALLS CITY HALL GO EAST ON STATE HIGHWAYS 39 AND 140 FOR 5.0 MILES TO THEIR JUNCTION, CONTINUE EAST ON STATE HIGHWAY 140 FOR 4.0 MILES TO OLENE, CONTINUE NORTHEAST ON THE HIGHWAY FOR 2.4 MILES TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE LEFT, CONTINUE ON STATE HIGHWAY 140 FOR 0.5 MILE TO THE STATION ON THE LEFT. THE STATION MARK, STAMPED UNDERPASS 1948, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 3 INCHES, 200 FEET SOUTHEAST OF A RAILROAD UNDERPASS, 62 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, ON THE OUTSIDE OF A CURVE, 26 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY FENCE LINE, AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST. (NOTE 1A AND 7A) REFERENCE MARK NO. 1, STAMPED UNDERPASS NO 1 1948, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 12-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 1 INCH, 47 FEET SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, AND 21 FEET NORTHEAST OF THE WITNESS POST. THE AZIMUTH MARK, STAMPED UNDERPASS 1948 1971, IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 10-INCH SQUARE CONCRETE MONUMENT THAT PROJECTS 2 INCHES, 0.05 MILE NORTHWEST OF THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 140, AND NORTH POE VALLEY ROAD, 200 FEET NORTHWEST AND ACROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM MILEPOST NO. 12, 90 FEET WEST, AND ACROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM POWER POLE NO. 4/14, 52 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, 50 FEET NORTH OF TELEPHONE POLE NO. 68, 1 FOOT EAST OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY FENCE LINE, AND 1 FOOT NORTH OF A METAL WITNESS POST. (NOTE 16A) AIRLINE DISTANCE AND DIRECTION FROM NEAREST TOWN 12 MILES EAST OF KLAMATH FALLS.
