This NGS benchmark is imbedded in a rocky outcrop just east of Hwy 140 in Klamath County, OR.

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic survey disk from 1931 in good condition. This disk is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4140.4'. The original wooden witness post was found broken and lying near the station. There is also an orange carsonite witness post located neat the station as well. The NGS datasheet description is adequate for recovery with the exception that the railroad underpass mentioned has been removed, along with the railroad, which is now OC&E Woodsline State Trail (Rails to Trails trail).

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1971 13 MI E FROM KLAMATH FALLS. 7.8 MILES EAST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 140 FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 39, AND 140, 3.8 MILES NORTHEAST OF THE SETTLEMENT OF OLENE, 0.8 MILE NORTH OF THE RAILROAD UNDERPASS, 200 FEET NORTH OF A CULVERT UNDER THE HIGHWAY, UNDER THE TELEPHONE LINE 150 FEET SOUTH OF TELEPHONE POLE NO. 94, 40 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE HIGHWAY, AND 2 FEET NORTH OF THE WITNESS POST CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN A 3 BY 6 FOOT BEDROCK THAT PROJECTS 6 INCHES.
