In the middle the New Milford Town green there is a monument to Admiral Harry Shepard Knapp which features the bell from his flagship the U.S.S. Pittsburgh.

The front face of the bell is inscribed:

The front of a 6' high granite stele has the inscription:

The back of the granite stele is inscribed:

Inscriptions around the top of the bell indicated use on a previous vessle. The upper ring and the lower ring are inscribed:
