The Georgian style St. Mary's Church is within the Anglican Diocese of Barbados. It was built in 1825 and consecrated by Bishop William Hart Coleridge on July 27, 1827. On September 23, 1825, the legislature of Barbados passed an act which provided a grant of five thousand pounds (£5000.00) to facilitate the construction of St. Mary's Church. It replaced a church on this site that was destroyed by a hurricane. The Chancel was added in 1894. The clock in the church's tower was added in the 20th century at a cost of fifty thousand Barbados dollars. It was a gift from the Cave Shepherd & Co. Ltd. department store of Barbados.

This beautiful church is constructed of gray brick with white brick trim and features a large red roof. It was one of the few structures in Bridgetown that survived the great hurricane of 1831 without significant damage.

The stamp is part of a four stamp set issued by Barbados in 2012 depicting historic sites on the island.
