Located on the west side of the upper part of the Pine Hill Cemetery is a monument to Civil War Veterans that was presented to the Post 41 of the Lyon G. A. R. Post #41 in Westfield MA. Set among a section of the cemetery which has the graves of Civil War veterans is an approximately 6' high zinc statue of a Union soldier standing on top of an approximately 5' high by 4' square granite pedestal.
The Union soldier is wearing a moustache, cap and a belted overcoat, which comes down to his knees. He is holding his rifle vertically by the barrel, left hand over right. The butt of the rifle rests near his right foot. His left foot is placed slightly forward. A sword hangs from a belt at his left hip.
The circular dado on the front of the pedestal has G.A.R. inscribed in large capital letters. The back of the plinth beneath the zinc statue is engraved:
ERECTED BY EDWIN R. LAY PRESENTED TO
LYON G. A. R. POST 41
MAY 30, 1900
The oval back dado contains a relief sculpture of the Grand Army of the Republic medal.
