This bronze abstact of a Dogwood tree flower is in the eyes of the beholder. When I saw it, I would not have thought "Oh, this is a flower ..." I looked at it from several angles and my impression was that it was some abstract turtle. Not until I read the small sign on the base that I associated the term dogwood to it. The small aluminum sign states:

"Dogwood
Artist: John Portman"

This bronze abstract has a light tan to yellowish patina to it. It sits on a granite base about 6'x4'x5'. The sculpure itself measures 3 feet 4 inches high, 5 feet long and 4 feet wide. The oval shape and the "peddles" still cause me to see a turtle before I see a flower, but, oh well. Nowadays, art is what the sculptor declares it is.
This Dogwood sculpture is on the proper left of the entrance of the SunTrust Plaza. On the proper right side of the entrance is another bronze sculpture by a different artist that is also worthy of waymarking. This John Portman sculpture of a Dogwood flower in abstract is one of several Portman sculptures found on the grounds of the SunTrust Plaza. The address of the SunTrust Plaza is 303 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 03038.
