The building was constructed in 1939. It was designed by architect Eric S C Miller in an Art Deco style. Tghe building served as a bus station linking the near by railroad depot with buses to area not served by railroads. The building provided passenger and ticket facilities and also maintenance facility for the buses. The building is now used by the Otago Settlers Museum.
The building is listed as a Category I building on the New Zealand Heritage Register.
