As you drive towards the little town of Melrose at the base of Mount Remarkable, the town is dwarfed by the mountain, it's all you can see.
There is a lovely 12km return walk trail to the top of the mountain, with plenty to see along the way. At the top there is a trig point and a sign for the summit.
It's free to hike to the top, and there is plenty of parking in town or at the war memorial at the start of the walk.
