First records of a church of Sant Pere de Ponts and a castle date back to the year 1024. In the second half of the 14th century, the congregation moved into the church of Santa Maria, near the village of Pont. In 1391 the church of Sant Pere de Ponts became a collegiate church and retained this function until it's dissolution and destruction in the Carlist War in 1840.
The ruins were declared a national monument in 1931 and restored in the late 20th century through the initiative of l'Associació d'Amics de Sant Pere de Ponts.
The present church is largely the result of this restoration. It is a single-nave building with a barrel vault, three apses to the east, north and south. At this point, the dome is on the large octagonal dome. Outside, next to a door, you'll see a grave with four shields. Inside is another old grave with the name "Gilabertus".
