En del af en serie på 10 frimærker som beskriver Danmark som et kongerige i 1000 år.
De er graveret af Bent Jacobsen fra en tegning udført af kunstneren Primus Nielsen og blev udgivet 1954-09-16.
Nyborg Slot, (bygget omkring 1100) som er Danmarks eneste bevarede middelalderlige kongeborg var indtil 1413 rammen omkring det berømte Danehof, datidens parlament, og var bolig for de danske konger indtil 1658.
Slottet blev ødelagt under Svenskekrigen 1658-1659 og blev efter enevældens indførelse i 1660 opgivet som kongebolig.
I løbet af de følgende 220 år nedbrød man nord-, syd- og østfløjen og genbrugte bl.a. materialerne ved opførelsen af Odense Slot.
Nationalmuseet begyndte at restaurere Nyborg Slot i 1914, og siden da har det fungeret som museum.
