It's unusual that a pole on a water tower like this is used as a beacon. Normally it's either a standard beacon or a tripod beacon on top of the water tower. In either case, the black vanes will be visible, but there aren't any vanes here.

Ideally, you should try to take photos at the actual beacon location, but if that isn't possible (private property, terrain, etc), then photos taken from a distance are also welcome, especially if the beacon is visible in the photo.
