This one-story buff brick building, located at 301 N. 8th Street, was constructed by the WPA in 1937. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Since 1983, this building has housed the Stephens County Genealogical Society Library. Their goal is to "preserve knowledge and information of a genealogical, historical and biographic nature."
The library has extensive records for public access. Microfilm and microfiche readers are available, and some records are on CDs. Information includes school, death, city directories, Indian, military and genealogical records, as well as personal family histories. Newspapers from Duncan and surrounding towns from 1893-1939 are on microfilm, with later editions in hard copy. The library research team will conduct individual searches for a fee of $5.00 per hour, upon request.
Plan to spend several hours here, roaming through the historical records to find the choice tidbits that relate to you and your family.
