This is one of two 5.5 inch guns that sit outside the National Army Museum next to Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea, London.
The plaque, adjacent to the gun, reads:
"5.5 inch Guns, Mark III, on Mark I carriages, c1945
The 5.5 inch gun was one of the main medium artillery guns used by the British during the
Second World War (1939-45).
First deployed in North Africa in 1942, it could fire a 90lb (41kg) shell to 16,000 yards
(14,500 metres). It proved to be very popular and carried on in British service until the 1980s."
