At 1829m, this peak is the second highest point in Swaziland.

We've assigned the name "NGWENYA SUMMIT" because we've been unable to ascertain the formal name of this beacon.

Please note that you will have to enter the Malolotja Nature Reserve and pay a nominal day visitor conservation fee.

The easiest route to the beacon is via the old and defunkt Ngwenya Iron Ore mine and the "Lion Cavern" which is the oldest known mine in the world where hematite was mined by the San people about 41,000BC.

Follow the Ngwenya Mine signs past the glassworks, and once up on top, keep right and head to the lower parking. If you have a car this will be the nearest parking, and you'll need to continue on foot (about 10kms walking round trip there and back).

If you have a 4x4, then head for S26°11.788 E031°01.935 where you must keep right and proceed through the bad looking mud-hole. Don't worry, it looks terrible, but it's OK - you'll make it. Then follow the trail into the mountains to about 100m from the beacon - enjoy!!
Altitude (m): 1829

Beacon Type: Peak

Beacon Construction: Standard beacon

Visit Instructions:
We don't require you to provide any specific proof of your visit, but we do request that you upload photos if possible, the more the merrier.

Ideally, you should try to take photos at the actual beacon location, but if that isn't possible (private property, terrain, etc), then photos taken from a distance are also welcome, especially if the beacon is visible in the photo.
