This is the site of the Anglo-Boer War Battle of Tugela Heights which took place between 14 and 27 February 1900. The British eventually overcame the boer resistance here, and their victory was a major step towards the relief of the siege of Ladysmith.
The photo location is on Railway Hill, 575m from the actual beacon on top of Harts Hill, and is the closest vehicle access we could find. The beacon is clearly visible from there, looking almost due east.
You are welcome to log this beacon from the photo location, or if you're feeling energetic, you should be able to hike to the actual beacon quite easily. It's a bit of a climb but the terrain doesn't look too difficult.
Altitude (m): 1083
Beacon Type: Peak
Beacon Construction: Standard beacon

Visit Instructions:We don't require you to provide any specific proof of your visit, but we do request that you upload photos if possible, the more the merrier.
Ideally, you should try to take photos at the actual beacon location, but if that isn't possible (private property, terrain, etc), then photos taken from a distance are also welcome, especially if the beacon is visible in the photo.
