In the Dedham village of Oakdale Square is the Oakdale Square Common.
The common is located next to the intersection of Cedar Street, River Street, Cobbler Lane, and Sanderson Avenue. The common is bounded by Cobbler Lane, River Street, and Oakdale Avenue.
The common is triangular in shape and is lined with a white rail fence. There are a couple entrances. No signs for the common were seen. There was a memorial sign for 'Daniel R. Beckford Square' on the corner closest to the five street intersection.
According to the Dedham Historical Society web site, the first major subdivision in Dedham was Whiting Farm, done in 1871, which is now known as Oakdale Square. The church next to the square was also built that year.
The park is maintained by the Dedham Park Department.
