Endion School was built in 1890; the Romanesque red brick and brownstone structure was designed by architect Adolph Rudolph. It operated as an educational facility until 1977. The original belfry was removed in 1970 because of vandalism. This unique historical school building has been turned into 26 apartment units sometime since its listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This area of town was originally called “Endion” which means “my home” in the Ojibwe language.
