St. Mark’s AME Church was established in 1890, and the Gothic/Tudor Revival style building was constructed in two stages, starting in 1900 and finishing it in 1913. It has been used not only for worship services but also for addressing the social, economic, political, civil rights needs of the congregation and community. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and continues to serve as a religious center for the Afro-American neighborhood.
