The Galveston section of the Great Coastal Birding Trail (Upper Texas Coast region) is very near the US Coast Guard Station in Galveston. There is nice paved parking at the trailhead, and the trail is paved with crushed granite. The trail is handicapped accessible, but everyone needs to WATCH FOR SNAKES (even in winter).

Mallards
other common duck species
Black Vultures,
White geese
Texas Laughing Gulls
Other Seagulls
Both White and Brown Pelicans
Both Great and Lesser Egrets
Blue Herons
Several species of Kerlews
Sandpipers
Russian Terns
Black Skimmers
Cormorants, and
(at specific times) other migratory birds that go up and down the famous "Texas Flyway."
