Oceanside has a significan Samoan community. Every year it seems like at least half of the front lineman for the Oceanside High School football team are Samoan. Some even go on to play professional football. Junior Seau, a well known and well liked player for the San Diego Chargers, came from Oceanside. And since so much of American Samoa is beach it is only fitting that this plaque be placed in close proximity to Oceanside's beaches. The plaque reads:

Talofa - Welcome

In Honor of Oceanside's Sister City Pago-Pago
and the Territories of American Samoa

Dedicated: June 22, 2002

Terry Johnson - Mayor
Jack Feller - Deputy Mayor
Betty Harding - Councilmember
Carol McCauley - Councilmember
Esther Sanchez - Councilmember

Rosemary Jones - City Treasurer
