If passenger rail traffic is your primary interest then this transit center can keep you occupied all day long. Three commuter rail services terminate in Oceanside plus Amtrak offers frequent stops of its daily Surfliner service.
Metrolink, operating 6 trains weekdays and 4 trains on weekends, travels north from Oceanside and serves Orange and Los Angeles counties. Coaster, offering 11 trains on weekdays and 4 on weekends travels south along the coast to downtown San Diego. Sprinter, with 34 trains at 30 minute intervals plus 4 more on Friday night and 2 extras on Saturday night, travels east and serves the inland cities of north San Diego county. The Amtrak Surfliner has 11 trains daily each way stopping in Oceanside plus an express service train with limited stops on weekdays.
All this makes for a very busy day in the Oceanside Transit Center and it is not at all unusual to see three trains in this station at one time.
And if you have family members who aren't all that interested in trains or you want to take an occasional break from watching all this activity, you are at the southwest corner of downtown Oceanside and all that it has to offer.
