Born in Scotland, Sir John A. Macdonald spent much of his life in Kingston when he wasn't working the halls of parliament in Ottawa. This plaque, erected by the Kingston Historical Society in 1954, commemorates the building where Macdonald began his legal career.

The plaque reads:
