This much larger than life-sized statue of the Buddha is located in a "Buddha Park" (as they are referred to in Thailand, in English at least), on the northern outskirts of the northern Thai provincial capital of Phetchabun. The Buddha statue is the centrepiece of the park. It is in a distinctive design, and sits on a large, raised dais, with other associated Buddhist images. I estimate the Buddha to be ~10m high. The site is a major local drawcard, with a sizeable number of locals coming by to pay their respects. Entry is unrestricted, though of course, a small donation (say 20 baht, ~50c) is the thing to do.

I attempted to find a story behind this Buddha image, but as far as I can find, it is simply a large statue of the Buddha, though in a style I had not seen before. According to the tourist sign at the Park, the statue was crafted in the nearby province of Lopburi.

The Buddha is the founder and principal figure in the Buddhist faith. He lived during the sixth centre BCE, beginning life as an Indian prince, but then turned from a life or power and ease, to seek enlightenment. The Buddhist belief system centres around the teachings of the Buddha and the Buddhist community, and includes a belief in reincarnation. There are approximately 500 million Buddhists, and, while present in virtually every country, its practitioners are most likely to be found in India and east Asia.
Associated Religion(s): Bhuddism.
