The anchor on display belongs to the Geltwood built at Harrington, Scotland in 1876. It was a three masted iron hull Barque of 1056 tons and 66 meters in length.
The vessel departed on its maiden voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne carrying a general cargo of tobacco, beer, salt and tinplate valued at £18,400.
After being at sea for 3 months the vessel ran into a fierce storm and at the height of the storm on about 14th June, the vessel ran aground approximately 12 kms south-east of Ravoli Bay.
Once rescuers arrived on the scene they were faced with a devastating scene, tragically all were killed including the captain and his wife, 1 passenger and a crew of 24.
The anchor sits overlooking Ravoli bay with a nearby time capsual and a memorial to those lost at sea.
