EN: The De-Wette school was built in 1901-1903, designed by Fritz Stehelin and Emanuel La Roche in neo-baroque style. It is named after the theologian Wilhelm Martin Leberecht De Wette who acted after 1822 as a professor and later rector at Basel University.
The school building is located at the Elizabeth park just opposite the main train station.
The building contained classrooms for about 900 students and was first used by the Upper Secondary School. From 1941, the Mathematics and Natural Sciences High School was at this address until it merged 1997 with the neighboring Realgymnasium to the high school Gymnasium am Kirschgarten. This high school still uses a part of the rooms, especially the laboratories.
DE: Das De-Wette-Schulhaus wurde 1901-1903 nach Plänen von Fritz Stehelin und Emanuel La Roche im neubarocken Stil erbaut. Es ist benannt nach dem Theologen Wilhelm Martin Leberecht De Wette, welcher ab 1822 als Professor und später Rektor an der Basler Universität wirkte.
Das Schulhaus befindet sich an der Elisabethenanlage gleich gegenüber vom Hauptbahnhof.
Das Gebäude umfasste Klassenzimmer für rund 900 Schüler und wurde zuerst von der Oberen Realschule benutzt. Ab 1941 befand sich das Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Gymnasium an dieser Adresse, bis es 1997 mit dem benachbarten Realgymnasium zum Gymnasium am Kirschgarten fusionierte. Dieses Gymnasium benutzt auch heute noch einen teil der Räume, besonders die Laboratorien.
