Das Grunder Gebiet ist reich an Bodenschätzen. Die unvollkommenen technischen Einrichtungen vergangener Zeiten und die fehlenden Aufschlagwässer verhinderten ein tieferes Eindringen in die Erdschichten, wo heute noch edle Metalle lagern. Das Geotop "Porphyrfächer" am Schmieders Graben ist Mittelpunkt eines neu entstandenen Geologischen Freilichtmuseums im Tharandter Wald, das die einmalige Konzentration geologischer Aufschlüsse dieser Region auf Tafeln demonstriert.

The Grund area is rich in natural resources. The imperfect technical systems of yesteryear and the missing premium waters prevented a deeper penetration into the layers of the earth, home to precious metals today. The geotope "porphyry fan" on Schmieders ditch is the center of a newly formed Geological Survey Open-Air Museum in Tharandt forest that demonstrates the unique concentration of geological outcrops of this region on tablets.
