St Dunstan's Church was built in 1903. The parish was originally founded in 1869 and its first church (St. Mary's) was built the same year, however it was destroyed in a storm four years later. The parish then heard mass in the school until St. Dunstan's was opened in October 1903. St. Dunstan's is constructed of locally quarried stone and was designed by architect Francis William Petre in a simple Gothic Revival style. Petre designed many Catholic churches around New Zealand. The building was constructed by local craftsmen Thomas Wilkinson and John Holloway. In 1989 major repairs were done to the church due to its settling. In 2003 further repairs were done in celebration of the church's centenary. A priest is no longer assigned permanently in Clyde and the church is now used for special occasions, holidays and when extra priests are available from near by Alexandria. However it continues to be maintained in very good condition.
