This house is an example of Furness's early work and indicates his timidity, according to Michael J. Lewis. Houses like the MacGregor Mitcheson House "...with its facade of blind niches and razor-sharp laminated planes, had lovely ornament but were still improvisations on Hunt's designs, careful and deferential."
