Visitors to the Washington Mutual Tower will notice a series of metal sculptures of columns that are depicted in different stages of toppling over and also sliced into pieces and are titled New Archetypes by artists Anne and Patrick Poirier from 1990. Visitors will also notice a large metal lightning bolt that lies inside a water fountain and is also part of this series of abstract sculptures.

The water fountain contains six spouts, three in either side that dispense flowing water out of the walls and into this fan-shaped fountain. There are stairs that merge on either side of the fountain to create a semi-enclosed archway and it complements the metal sculptures nicely.

I would imagine that this fountain is a popular spot for the working folk to sit and take a lunch break.
