On the banks of the River Medway in Gillingham is the local sailing club. The Medway Cruising Club own several areas of land along the river where boats can be launched or stored.
On the building by one of the slipways there is a weathervane on top of a tall pole. This shows a red yacht with two sails. The rear of the vane is dated 1895 which is the year the club was formed.
