Ballarat Railway Station was built in the mid 180's with construction starting in 1862 and originally had a railway line to Melbourne via Geelong.
In 1882 a new direct rail line to Melbourne was built and because there was more patrons the station was upgraded with the clocktower being the most noticeable addition in 1981, although the clock wasnt added for another 3 years
