St. Michael the Archangel is the parish church in Whittington. The church is built on the site of a motte and bailey fortification. The mound to the side could have been a Norse moothill (meeting place).

The Gothic church we see today is largely the result of 1875 restoration by local prominent architects from Lancaster, Paley and Austin. This was largely paid for by Colonel D. C. Greene of nearby Whittington Hall. The tower is the oldest part of the church from 1400s. There are Norse gravestones in the graveyard.
There are some fine stained glass windows.
