In the historical process, princes, mayors and sultans in case of defeat and withdraws, used to take a shelter to Ürgüp with its tunnels and underground villages.

In the Anatolian Seljuks period, because of the brother fights of the sultans for the thrones and in the Mongolian invasion, Seljuk Sultans Rüknettin Kilicarslan IV (1246-1266) and Alaaddin Keykubat III (1297-13044) also hide themselves in Ürgüp but were caught and murdered.

Kilicarslan wanted to be killed by putting poison to his wine glass by the soldiers of Seljuks Vizer M. Pervane who was a supporter of Mongolians in Anatolia. Kilicarslan escaped to Ürgüp, as the poisoned wine did not effect. He was captured in the place called Araslan (Er Arslan) which was a rocky area. Since blood of the Sultans could not be shed, he was strangled by bowstring and his corpse was taken and burred in "Kümbertane" which was the Sultans cemetery in Konya.

Although 586 years passed, People of Ürgüp did not forget Aslan Gazi, who became a martyr because of his ideals for the independence of Seljuk Empire against Mongolians. To the memory of him a tomb was built by the help of Kayseri Mayor Vecihi Pasa in 1852.

The word "Temenni" given to the hill where the tomb is now means "sacred area, sacrificial area od pray land" in the Sumerian, that gives and idea about the age of the place.

The mass of rock on the northern adjacent was named as "Berekut-Burgut" which was Ürgüp Castle.

Ottoman Empire accepted it as Kilicarslan's Dervish House, appointed a caretaker official and provided appropriation. The original marble inscriptions of the tomb that was written on an indigo blue background in two paragraphs, can be visited at Ürgüp Museum now. In the marble stone of the grave, there's another inscription.
