Mount Shasta currently has a population of about 3,500. There are signs posted in downtown Mount Shasta that indicate old Route 99 ran directly through this town, and if you look closely, you can pick out signs of the past, even on a quick drive thru town.
During my recent visit, I noticed some old rockwork on the fronts of some of the current businesses, who have remodeled old buildings and put them to use. The Woodsman Lodge appears to be a remodeled "motor court" from the 1960s, now remodeled into the modern fashion and retitled as "cabins". Take a look the next time you have the opportunity to drive thru Mount Shasta, and help record glimpses into the past.
