Sitting Bull was born on the Grand River a few miles west of Mobridge, SD. He died near the place of his birth, shot while being arrested for his alleged involvement in the Ghost Dance Craze. 1876 - Victorious at the Battle of the Little Big Horn

1881 - Returned to the United States and lived in this area
