The Churchill County Museum opened July 4, 1968 in a former Safeway grocery store, with additional improvements added over the years. Today the musuem artifacts include buggies, fire engines, a blacksmith shop, old telephones, a 1912 steam roller, Native American artifacts (cradle boards, woven water pitchers, burden baskets, history of the Paiute peoples, more), artifacts that would be used in a pioneer's kitchen, an exhibit on the history and daily life on the emigrant trail, a relocated Novelty Store with associated artifacts, collections of pioneer clothing, china, quilts, saddles, mining artifacts, outdoor farming equipment, petrified wood, rock collection, and a 1908 Oldsmobile (on loan) and much more.
Theme: History and Cultural museum with minor Natural History.
Displays include Native American, pioneer and mining artifacts.
Collections include natural (rocks, petrified wood) and social (pioneer living/working artifacts, saddles, textiles, merchant & mining).
