A larger than life bronze bust of long serving Boston area Cardinal Richard James Cushing is located in a small park in busy Cambridge Street on the west side of Boston.
Richard James Cardinal Cushing was born in South Boston in 1895. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1921 and rose the the position of Cardinal of the Archdiocese of Boston in 1944. He held that position for 26 years until his death in 1970.
The bronze bust of Cardinal Cushing rests on a gray granite plinth which is supported on a red granite base. The statue was created by James Rosati and installed by the priests and bishops of Boston in the park that bears his name in 1981.
The front of the base has the coat of arms of the Cardinal and the inscription:
