This area used to be known as Vale da Fornalha. It was built over a small chapel built by the monks who lived here until 1754. The chapel which can now be seen here was built in 1758.
An irregular octagon in plan, its interior is still decorated in polychrome stucco, rococo in style, with some retables and altars of carved and gilded wood that have real artistic merit.
It's well known for the collection of about 2.000 votive offerings, most of them from the 18th and 19th Centuries.
