Marker Name: Lew E. Smith House
Marker Text: Local contractor Ole K. Olson built this house for Lew Smith, who was one of the first Deschutes County Commissioners, elected in 1916. Manager for Tum-A-Lum Lumber Company for 28 years, Smith also served as Redmond’s mayor from 1925-27 and help organize the Commercial Club (forerunner to the Redmond Chamber of Commerce). You will find a duplicate design of this home, a stock plan from Tum-A=Lum Lumber Company, on 1st Street in Bend.
