Marker Text: Designed by the Portland architectural firm of Roald & Schneider, The Redmond Spokesman building exhibits many distinctive components of the Art Deco style. It was built by Fred Van Matre, a Central Oregon contractor,who built numerous buildings in Central Oregon during the 1930’s and 1940’s including the Tower Theater and the Deschutes County Library in Bend. The Redmond Spokesman had offices here until 1971.
