History: Excerpted from the Library's Website:
Bowlby Library has its orgins in 1943 as a church-sponsored library, becoming the Waynesburg Children's
Library in 1944. It was chartered and incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania in 1946, and its quarters in
the early years were mainly in rooms over a local bank.

In 1958, Eva K. Bowlby bequeathed her property on North West Street to house the Children's Library, which she
endowed with a substantial block of stock. Service expanded in 1967 to include an adult collection, and the name
was changed to the Eva K. Bowlby Public Library.

Bookmobile service to the outlying areas in the County began in 1974 and operated from the Bowlby premises until
it moved to the new headquarters of the Greene County Library System at the Thomas Hughes House in Jefferson
in 2003. In 1976, Bowlby Public Library became part of the newly created Greene County Library System. An
addition to the Bowlby home was dedicated in May 1987, greatly expanding the facilities of the Library.
