Elizabeth Collins Mills came to Texas with her husband Ed C. Mills in the 1840s with the Peter's Colony. They settled on a large farm in present-day Garland TX.
When she died in 1854, her husband donated the land for Mills Cemetery. His wife was the first burial there. In he last 150+ years, several generations of Mills family members have been laid to rest here.
Today Mills cemetery is still an active burial ground. Over 2000 people are buried in Mills Cemetery as of 2012, including many victims of the 9 May 1927 Garland Cyclone.
