Latinská škola pri chrámu P. Marie pred Týnem je doložena na pocátku 14. století. Prednášel na ní mimo jiné mistr Walther, lékar krále Jana Lucemburského a Karla IV. Za vlády Václava IV. získává škola budovu pred Týnským chrámem. Král vyvlastnil dum staromestského purkmistra (pro úcast na jeho uveznení) a v lednu 1404 jej venoval škole. Kolem r. 1475 pusobil v Týnské škole jako rektor stavitel Matej Rejsek z Prostejova. Po husitských bourích se dostává škola do protestantských rukou. V 15. a 16. století mela škola statut vyšší školy, a to "prední v mestech pražských". Po bitve na Bílé Hore je rekatolizována. V roce 1862 zde byl zaveden ceský vyucovací jazyk. Škola byla nedlouho po školské reforme v roce 1869 prestehována ke sv. Jakubu, kde byla transformována na Staromestskou školu meštanskou a obecnou.

Latin School at Church of Our Lady before Tyn is documented in the early 14th century. During the reign of Wenceslas IV. obtains school building in front of Tyn Church. King expropriated house of Old Town mayor (for participating in his imprisonment) and in January 1404 it donated to school. Around 1475 in the school worked as rector builder Matthew Rejsek of Prostejov (significant Gothic builder and stonemason). After the Hussite storm the school was in Protestant hands. In the 15th and 16 century, the school had a status of higher school. In 1862 there was introduced Czech teaching language. School after the school reform in 1869 moved to St. James Church, where it was transformed into the Old Town School.
