Their location is the corner of 7th. Ave. and Oliver St.

The 44th Engineers originated in Trail, British Columbia on June 5, 1947, when the "44th Field Squadron, RCE" was authorized to be formed. It was redesignated "44th Field Engineer Squadron (M)" on May 21, 1975, and "44th Field Engineer Squadron" on December 19, 1991.

Among other things, the 44th engineered and built the wood-decked suspension bridge to Zuckerberg Island in Castlegar in 1984, and engineered restorations of several bridges on the Trans Canada Trail, such as the Izzy Bridge in Creston Valley, the Kettle River Bridge and the Nursery Trestle Bridge between Grand Forks and Christina Lake, BC.

Formed as an amalgamation of existing units in 2008, 39 Combat Engineer Regiment (39 CER) is comprised of three units:

6 Engineer Squadron in North Vancouver
44 Engineer Squadron in Trail
54 Engineer Squadron in Chiliwack
Era: Post WW II

General Comments:
One benefit of having a small military base nearby is that the local pipe band uses the facility for practice in the summer. Many evenings one may sit on one's porch and listen to the pipes.
