Soldiers Monument is an impressive gray granite monument. It contains three figures. On top of a 22.8' high by 10.5' by 7.5' multi-tiered base stands an 8' figure of a Union standard bearer. He is wearing a cap, and belted coat with a sword on his left side. He has his left arm around the vertically held colors while his right hand in around the hilt of a sword. The stands, looking slightly to the right, with his right foot forward with his toe over the plinth.

Two additional figures occupy the left and right wings of the monument. On the wing to the right of the central figure there is a 6' high artilleryman. He is standing upright and wearing an open coat and vest while holding a ramrod at an angle in his right hand. The bottom of the handle of the ramrod rest between his feet.

On the wing to the left of the central figure stands a 6' high infantryman. The infantryman is wearing a long coat with a cape. He is holding a rifle vertically by the barrel, left hand over right. The rifle butt touches the ground near his right foot.

The shaft of the monument has relief sculptures of crossed swords, crossed rifles, crossed cannons, an anchor, and the insignia of the Grand Army of the Republic.

The sculpture was donated by Captain Nathaniel C. Hayden and fabricated by the McGovern Granite Company, who also supplied the granite. The monument was installed in June 1916 and dedicated July 15, 1916.

On the front of the monument is, in raised letters, the inscription:

UNIONVILLE HONORS
THE EARTH
THAT WRAPS HER
HEROES CLAY

On the front and back of the base are the dates:

1861-1865
