The old GC&SF Depot in tiny Kopperl TX stands lonely and abandoned, a relic of another time. The old "White Waiting Room" sign from the segregation era continues its mission of keeping people out, but this time it bars trespassers and vagrants who would enter the structure, not black patrons who might like to wait for their train in more comfortable surroundings inside.
The depot still sports NGS benchmark CS2251 H 57 under the station manager's window. Before the MKT and GC&SF RRs in the area all were re-routed to avoid being inundated by the newly-built Lake Whitney, this old disk used to be trackside. The RR tracks themselves were removed in the 1960s when declining rail traffic led the GC&SF to abandon service to dozens of towns in the area.
