"GATINEAU, QC, June 2, 2010 /CNW Telbec/ - Media representatives are invited to join the Trans Canada Trail at an event honouring Dr. Pierre Camu of Ottawa, Ontario. The event will take place on Saturday June 5, at 11 a.m. at the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion, located in the north end of Jacques Cartier Park off Laurier, near La Pieta Hospital. The pavilion will be officially designated the Dr. Pierre Camu Pavilion. Mrs. Laureen Harper, Mayor Marc Bureau, TCT Board member Paul LaBarge, and Dr. and Mrs. Pierre Camu will unveil naming signage.
"The Trans Canada Trail was first envisioned in 1992 by Dr. Pierre Camu and the late William Pratt of Calgary. As consultant in charge of programs for the Canada 125 celebrations, and later the first Chair of the Trans Canada Trail, Dr. Camu's vision of a trail that would connect Canadians was embraced by volunteers and supporters across the country. Today the Trail is the world's longest recreational trail, linking communities from coast to coast to coast and celebrating Canada's majestic natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Pierre Camu's spirit and passion for geography, transportation and communications helped forge the way for the Trans Canada Trail, ensuring its legacy for this generation and the next.
"The Trans Canada Trail proudly announced its plans to honour its two founders at a reception last September at Rideau Hall, hosted by Her Excellency, The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada. On June 5, the Trail will host a separate event at the Trans Canada Trail pavilion in Calgary, Alberta to unveil naming signage designating the pavilion the William Pratt Pavilion."
